Course Description
Each course will reflect the scholarly interests and teaching style of the instructor. However, the following accurately describes the general structure and content of our courses:
- Courses are based on upper level college anthropology courses instructors have previously taught.
- Course duration is eight weeks.
- They are restricted to a maximum of 15 students.
- Classes follow a seminar format, meeting weekly for about 2½ hours.
- Consequently, the quality and quantity of the anthropological material used is all commensurate with the courses’ level and format.
- Scientific methodology will be taught.
- Teaching methodology is largely Socratic.
- Students will be encouraged to question, to argue, to stick their necks out intellectually.
- Students will work on a research project based strictly on primary data.
- To facilitate that project instruction will include hands on mentoring in library and computer use.
- At the course’s completion, students will be given a detailed evaluation.
- Upon request, recommendation letters will be written.
